Agrisemen is an independent, private and specialized company in vegetable seeds. Agrisemen focuses on the professional seed market and can provide its customers with a specific range of high quality vegetable seeds.

Agrisemen was founded in 2001, but has roots which go back till 1935, so more than 70 years’ experience and expertise in the area of breeding vegetable seeds.

Our Main office is located in Borssele, the Netherlands. This is were its general management is based and from were all the processing & warehousing and sales activities are steered.

Although the vegetable seed world is dominated by only a few big sized seed companies, Agrisemen is the example that also smaller independent vegetable seed companies can be highly innovative and successful. Agrisemen was the first company which developed varieties of red pointed cabbage; a product which did not existed before.

Agrisemen is a strongly people-orientated company and believes that only well-motivated employees can realize products of the best quality. And good motivation is achieved and retained when there is a high degree of involvement with the work and pleasant, respectful collaboration amongst colleagues internally and externally.

Research

The main research center is located in Breda, The Netherlands. In Breda Agrisemen has over 10.000 m2 of greenhouses and other breeding facilities. Agrisemen carries out breeding work at various locations in the world, for example in Spain (Murcia and Almeria), Italy (Cesena) and Morocco (Agadir). Each location has its own climatological conditions. This enables Agrisemen to develop varieties which fit in perfectly with crops grown in the same climate zone.

Agrisemen invest extensively in the development of new vegetable varieties. The research is focused on the following crops:

• Batavia
• Butterhead lettuce
• French Climbing beans
• Brussels Sprouts
• Pointed Cabbage

Agrisemen is already thé climbing bean specialist and also wants to become thé lettuce specialist of the future. We do this through innovative research & development Over 50% of the employees are working in the research and Agrisemen invests a substantial part (over 25%) of its annual turnover in research.

Production and processing

The production of seeds takes place in several countries, including The Netherlands, Denmark, France, Chile, Peru, China and Australia. All seeds are shipped to our processing & warehouse facility in Borssele, The Netherlands. There the quality control, further cleaning, seed treatments and packaging is done, in order to be ready in time for shipment all over the world.

Marketing and sales

In over 70 countries we operate through a distribution network of exclusive distributors or in some countries through subsidiaries. For The Netherlands Agrisemen is also the exclusive distributor for other vegetable seed companies which do not have their own marketing and sales team for this market. Agrisemen is increasing its turnover by an average of 10% per year, this due to its success in breeding new innovative varieties.
